ÍME, A KIHAGYOTT MONDATOK:

A) It seems she has been looking for a new life for a while and that Brad just doesn't fit in.

B) That was especially true in 2013 when Jolie underwent a preventive double mastectomy , and again in 2015 when a high cancer risk led her to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.

C) His approach is: 'I'm gonna do what's best for my family.'

D) "A few months in I realized, 'God, I can't wait to get to work,'" Jolie said of filming Mr. & Mrs Smith with Pitt in Rome.

E) A few days ago, after months of mounting  tensions, Jolie told her husband of two years - and a partner of 12 - that she wanted a divorce.

F) Irreconcilable differences: check. Joint legal custody of their children: check.

MOST PEDIG KERESD MEG, MELYIK ELEM HONNAN MARADT KI!

This is not how either Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie wanted their marriage to end. [___1___] "She sat down , talked to Brad and offered to file [for divorce] together," says a source close to the actress. "She said, 'This is what I'd like to do.' She explained everything. Angelina did what she felt she needed to do." For his part Pitt knew his marriage was in trouble, and he'd been in counseling "to try to figure out how to make things better" for the couple's six kids, says a source in Pitt's circle. He "begged her to press pause" - not so they could reconcile, but so they could prepare their children for the massive upheaval to come, says the Pitt source: "He was willing to do anything, change any habit, change any lifestyle, to do what had to be done to make this work.  And by 'make this work,' that means doing what  has to be done to make even a split one that is amicable and in the best interests of the children."

But time was up. On Sept. 19 the 12-year Hollywood fairy tale known around the world as Brad & Angelina - both stars privately chafed at their popular Brangelina nickname - ended with 28 checked boxes in a divorce petition filed in Los Angeles by Jolie. [___2___] In the box beside "physical custody," Jolie checked only herself, with "visitation" for Pitt, and she did not request spousal support. She signed her name in two places - including the "Pitt" she took after the couple's wedding in 2014 - and the court clerk stamped the document case No. BD646058. "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," Pitt, 52, said in a statement to Magazine*, while Jolie, 41, said, "This decision was made for the health of the family." Of course, "both Brad and Angelina care very much about their kids," says the source in Pitt's circle, " and there is sadness on both sides."

Sadness, yes, and also shock. The split marks a sudden unhappy-ever-after for a couple who had ranked as the 21st century version of Bogie and Bacall, Taylor and Burton, Hepburn and Tracy: two wildly glamorous Oscar winners at the top of their game, showing off their sex appeal and chemistry with effortless ease  on hundreds of red carpets. Theirs was an on-set romance that blossomed into the robust real life with their six kids: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. "If you ask any of the kids about us, I feel like they'd say, 'Let's talk about how Mommy and Daddy are so uncool. That Daddy makes better pancakes than Mommy," Jolie told Magazine* in 2014. "We spend so much time at home that the film aspect is a fun part of our lives, but it's a small part."

In recent months that home life had become increasingly fraught. Sources on both sides acknowledge that the two stars can be challenging to live with. "Brad is not a saint," says the Pitt source and "Angelina is absolutely no angel," says the insider. "She has a complicated pesonality and can be difficult to deal with - she has always been very extreme." Things took a turn for the worse, sources say, sometime after the couple's 2014 wedding - during which "we committed our lives to the children," Jolie said. "Since they got married, Angelina has changed a lot," says the insider. "She wants something more than being an actress and director. She wants to be more involved with the United Nations and her missions." Earlier this year, adds the insider, "she seemed troubled and almost depressed. Angelina said she was just bored. [___3___]

Although they had long gone to painstaking lenghts to ensure they balanced their family and work lives, lately the pair had been pulled in separate directions. Pitt filmed Allied and War Machine overseas, while Jolie wrapped her latest directoral effort, First They Killed My Father, in Cambodia and continued her work for the United Nations' refugee agency. The insider who knows both stars says that Pitt made multiple solo trips to the couple's home in France, Chateau Miraval, following disagreements between the spouses: "They definitely spent more time apart this year, but it's still a shock."

Pitt himself was among those caught off guard by the timing, according to multiple people in their circle. "He got a heads-up [about the filing] two days before, and he was appealing to her to do this quietly - not to save the marriage but to consider the well-being of the children - and it was ignored," contends the Pitt source. "He is just wrecked by this." Pointing to other high-profile breakups, the source says that Jolie's divorce filing could have been handled less abruptly.  "Look at Gwyeneth [Paltrow  and Chris Martin], look at Ben [Affleck] and Jen [Garner], " says the Pitt source. "You go to that godforsaken island, you hunker down together, you grit your teeth, and you get through it. You don't do it this way." Pitt, the source adds, "is not going to go head-to-head with her. [___4___]

So what prompted Jolie to make the final break? Both sides quickly shot down rumours that Pitt was in any way involved with French actress Marion Cotillard, his costar in the upcoming drama Allied. "It's unfortunate if anybody tries to introduce negativity into what is already a very difficult and painful situation," says a Pitt source.

Even as the relationship hit rough patches - from the everyday stresses of raising a large family to the life-changing challenges of Jolie's two cancer-preventing surgeries - the pair appeared committed to working through their issues. "It was more like their was over and they entered a real marriage," says the insider. "The differences and arguments they had all seemed very normal." That included diverging parenting styles, with Brad taking a "stricter approach" to Angelina's "more relaxed attitude," says the source. "It never seemed it was a big deal. Brad and Angelina are both great, great parents. And their differences seemed to make them a great parent team."

But behind closed doors the relationship was quietly unraveling. "Things built and built over time - it wasn't any one thing," says the Jolie source. "She's loved this man for several years, and [divorce] is not something you do impulsively." The Pitt source concurs, citing "a series off issues and a cycle of disagreements," but says there was a final straw. "There was clearly a breaking point, where she'd just had enough," says the source. "He may have been broken himself and said he couldn't go on, and she reacted. This has been difficult for a while. Marriages are difficult especially when you're those two people, with those schedules and six children."

It's a far different life from the one each star had when they met in 2004 on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. At the time, Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston and Jolie was twice divorced, from actors Tommy Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. She was also a single mother to son Maddox, whom she adopted from Cambodia in 2003. They quickly bonded, and she later told Vogue that when the shoot wrapped in 2004 - Pitt and Aniston split early the next year - the pair realized that their connection "might mean something more than we'd earlier allowed ourselves to beleive."

Throughout the next decade the two A-listers grew their careers, their family and their fortune. (It's estimated at a combined $500 million.) With their time-zone-hopping adventures and their children's diverse backgrounds, they embodied both Hollywood fantasy and spirited sense of the modern American family. They gushed about the custom bed they built for all the kids to pile into, joked about Angelina's terrible cooking and embraced what they repeatedly described as the happy "chaos" of it all. "Brad's an extraordinary father," she told Magazine* in 2010. "We have each other's backs."

[___5___] (Pitt also supported her through the 2007 ovarian cancer death of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, at age 56.) When they shot their 2015 drama By the Sea, which Jolie wrote and directed, about a couple whose marraiage was coming undone, she said that their own only strengthened them and that they both "appreciate the beauty in each other's changes...and look forward to even more years together." A year before, she had told Magazine*, "We've been through so much. We've gotten a lot closer, which I think naturally happens with raising a family together. You have history."

Now that history includes a heartbreaking final chapter - one both sides say is still being written. "They ultimately will try to find a dignified way to move forward," says the Pitt source. "He will always love her and wants to find a way to resolve this amicably, for the sake of their kids." Jolie feels the same. "She desperately cares about Brad," says a source close to her. "He's the father of her children." Adds a mutual friend of both stars: "She'll always love him. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, it doesn't work out, and it's so sad."

SON of SAUL - Official Cannes Film Festival Interview + Auschwitz & filmes szószedet + szövegértés feladat

How did the idea for SON OF SAUL come to you?
When we were making A londoni férfi (The Man from London), in Bastia, the shoot was interrupted for a week and in a bookstore I found a book of eyewitness accounts published by the Shoah Memorial called Des Voix sous la cendre (Voices from beneath the Ashes), also known as “The scrolls of Auschwitz.” It’s a book of texts written by former Sonderkommando members from the extermination camps who had buried and hidden their written testimonies before the rebellion in 1944. The actual documents were found years later. They describe their daily tasks, how the work was organized, the rules by which the camp was run and Jews exterminated, as well as how they put together a certain form of resistance.
What was the Sonderkommando? What did its members do?
They were prisoners chosen by the SS to escort new transports of prisoners to the gas chamber buildings, to get them to undress, reassure them and lead them into the gas chambers. After, they would remove and burn the corpses all the while cleaning the space. And it all had to be accomplished very quickly because other prisoner convoys were already on the way. Auschwitz-Birkenau functioned like a factory producing and eliminating corpses on an industrial scale. In the summer of 1944, it was running at full capacity: historians estimate that several thousand Jews were assassinated there every day. During the course of their mission, the Sonderkommandos were given a relatively preferential treatment. They were allowed to take food found in the transports and, within the confines of their perimeter, have a relative freedom of movement. But the task they were assigned was grueling and they were regularly eliminated every three or four months by the SS in order to ensure that there were no witnesses to the extermination.
Was your family affected by the Shoah?
A part of my family was assassinated in Auschwitz. It was something we talked about every day. When I was little, I had the impression that “evil had been done.” I imagined it like a black hole burrowed within us; something had broken, and my inability to grasp exactly what it was kept me isolated. I didn’t understand for many years. Then, the time came for me to reconnect with that specific part of my family’s history.
Why did you choose to use the Sonderkommando accounts?
I have always found movies about the camps frustrating. They attempt to build stories of survival and heroism, but in my mind they are in fact recreating a mythical conception of the past. The Sonderkommando accounts are on the contrary concrete, present and tangible. They precisely describe, in the here and now, the “normal” functioning of a death factory, with its organization, its rules, work cadences, shifts, hazards, and its maximum productivity. In fact, the SS used the word “Stück “ (“parts”) when speaking about corpses. Corpses were produced in that factory. These accounts allowed me to see it all through the eyes of the extermination camps’ damned.
But how do you go about telling a story, a fictional story, from within the middle of a fully functioning extermination camp?
That was problematic, indeed. I didn’t want to make a hero of anyone; I didn’t want the survivor’s point of view, nor did I want to show all or even too much of this death factory. I just wanted an angle that would be specific, pared down, and to tell a story as simple and archaic as possible. I chose the viewpoint of a man, Saul Ausländer, a Hungarian Jew, member of the Sonderkommando, and I strictly upheld this position: I show what he sees, no more and no less. Yet it isn’t a “subjective stance,” because we see him as a character and I didn’t want to reduce the film to a purely visual approach. That would have been artificial. Aesthetics, any exercise in style or virtuosity needed to be avoided. Moreover, this man is the point of origin of a unique, obsessive and primitive story: he believes he has recognized his son among the gas chamber victims and is henceforth determined to save his body from the ovens, find a rabbi to say Kaddish and bury him. Everything he does is defined by this mission, which seems utterly pointless in the context of the hell on earth that is the extermination camp. The film concentrates on one point of view and one person’s line of action, which allows the character to come across other points of view and other actions. The camp, however, is perceived through the prism of Saul’s journey.
Much research and documentation must have gone into making this film, a veritable historian’s approach…
My co-screenwriter, Clara Royer, and I learned together. We read other eyewitness accounts, from Shlomo Venezia and Filip Müller, but also that of Miklós Nyiszli, a Hungarian Jewish doctor who was assigned to the crematoriums. Then of course there was Claude Lanzmann’s Shoah, in particular the Sonderkommando sequences, including the Abraham Bomba account, which remains a reference. Finally, we received the very helpful support of historianslike Gideon Greif, Philippe Mesnard and Zoltán Vági.
Did you forbid yourself anything?
I didn’t want to have to show the face of horror openly, or to recreate the atrocity by going into the gas chambers while people were dying. The film strictly follows Saul’s movements. So we stop at the door of the gas chamber and enter only after the extermination in order to remove the bodies and wash away any traces of what occurred there in preparation for the next group. These missing images are those of death; images that can’t be reconstructed, and shouldn’t be touched or manipulated. Because it is important for me to stay with Saul’s point of view, I only show what he sees; what he pays attention to. He’s been working in the crematorium for four months: as a protective reflex, he no longer notices the horror, and so I relegated the horror to the background, blurred or off screen. Saul only sees the object of his quest; this provides the film with its visual rhythm.
How did you film it?
The cinematographer, Mátyás Erdély, the production designer, László Rajk and I decided well before the shoot that we would stick to a sort of dogma: “the film cannot look beautiful,” “the film cannot look appealing,” “we cannot make a horror film,” “staying with Saul means not going beyond his own field of vision, hearing, and presence,” “the camera is his companion, it stays with him throughout this hell.” We also wanted to use traditional 35mm film and photochemical processing at every stage. It was the only way to maintain a certain instability in the images, and thus be able to film this world organically. The challenge was to strike an emotional chord in the audience – something that digital doesn’t allow for. All of this implied a lighting technique that was diffused, industrial and as simple as possible. It also required filming with the same lens, a 40mm, a restricted aspect ratio, and not something like scope which widens one’s field of vision. We had to always remain at the character’s eye level and stay with him.
Saul wears a jacket with a big red cross on the back…
Yes, it’s a target. The SS used it to make it easier to shoot men who tried to escape. For us, it was a visual target for the camera.
Did you have any other films in mind?
Idi i smotri (Come and see) by Elem Klimov (1985) was a great source of inspiration for me. The movie follows a boy in 1943 on the Eastern front and stays with him in an organic manner through his hellish adventures. But Klimov allowed himself far more baroque things than we did. In the movie’s first scene, everything is a blur and then a face suddenly appears - it is Saul’s. He appears out of nowhere. My first short film, With a Little Patience, starts like that as well. The audience, who sees him spring up, understands immediately that he’s the one they’ll be following throughout the film. We did a lot of work with the actors on their body language. Camp rules, and what is required for survival impose very specific body movements: to always look down, never look a SS in the eye; to walk taking small, regular, but swift steps; take off your hat to salute and don’t talk or, if you must, answer clearly, in German.
We quickly understand that there are several contradictory dynamics at play in the camp: submission to the SS, solidarity among Sonderkommando members, but also tension, rivalry, and the organization of a resistance.
Naturally, several standpoints exist within this horror, ranging from renouncement to resistance. And there are several ways to resist. In the film, we witness an attempted rebellion, which in fact took place in 1944, the only armed revolt in the history of Auschwitz. As for Saul, he chooses another form of revolt, which may seem irrelevant in this context. In following his personal quest, Saul is led to navigate between these different behaviors: recovering the boy’s body takes him to the autopsy rooms where he finds the doctors and anatomists. Looking for a rabbi brings him to come across other Sonderkommando groups and convoys of Jews headed for death. Circulating through the camp eventually leads him to take the same path as the resistance members. He sees all of this in snatches, and the audience too must try and understand by piecing together the fragments. No one has all the elements in hand; everyone has fragments with which they attempt to construct their vision of the whole.
At some point, Saul comes across members of the resistance who are trying to photograph the extermination process.
Something that was strictly forbidden by the SS, of course. In Birkenau, the Polish resistance was able to get one or a few cameras to the Sonderkommando in order to document the extermination. At unbelievably great risk, they were able to take a photograph just before the doors to a gas chamber were closed and then immediately afterwards: naked women approaching the shot; then their piled-up corpses, which were taken outside and burned right there on the ground.
And the four photographs shown during the Mémoire des camps [Memoir of the camps] exhibition, in 2001, four “images despite it all”? (A reference to the book by the art historian and philosopher Georges-Didi Huberman.)
These four photographs deeply affected me. They attest to the extermination, they constitute evidence, and ask essential questions. What should be done with an image? What can it represent? What viewpoint should we have when faced with death and barbarity? We integrated this moment into the heart of the film, as it corresponds to a segment of Saul’s journey through the camp when suddenly, just for a moment, he participates in the construction of our view of the extermination. And also, because of the representation of the image within itself, we are, at that point and only then, questioning the very status of representation.
Sound plays an important role in the film.
The sound designer, Tamás Zányi, who has worked on all my films, and I decided to work on a sound that was very simple, raw and yet quite complex and multidimensional. One has to be aware of the very particular sound atmosphere of these hellish factories. The multiplicity of tasks being accomplished, shouted orders, screams, and many languages were all intermingling: the German of the SS, the multiple languages spoken by the prisoners, among which was Yiddish, and those spoken by the victims who came from all over Europe. Sound can superimpose over the image, at times even taking its place, because some images are missing and rightfully so. I would compare it to diverse and sometimes contradictory layers of sound. And all this sound material needed to remain raw. It was important not to re-produce it or polish it.
Who is the person who plays Saul?
Géza Röhrig isn’t an actor, but a Hungarian writer and poet who lives in New York. I met him several years ago. He came to mind for the role probably because he is someone who is in constant motion, his facial features and his body are always changing. It is impossible to tell his age, for he is at once old and young, but also handsome and ugly; ordinary and remarkable, deep and impassive, quick-witted and slow. He moves, is given to fidgeting, but also knows how to keep silent and still. This character and your film endeavor to contrast a death ceremony and the death factory, rites and machinery, prayer and noise. When there is no longer any hope, from the deepest part of this hell, Saul’s inner voice says to him: you must survive in order to accomplish an act that bears meaning, a human, age-old, sacred meaning; a meaningful act that is at the very origin of the community of mankind and religions: paying respect to the body of the dead.

US STORY: ***** From BRUCE to CAITLYN ***** - A Journey to Courage - The Award Ceremony+GAPS to fill

Angol tanulás online és offline, akárhol vagy bárhol! English-Online.hu :) Nyelvtanulás és szórakozás egy helyen!

As she puts it:

"2015 is gonna be quite a ride, quite a ride..."

"Bruce lives _ lie. SHE is NOT _ lie. I just can’t do it anymore.” (Bruce Jenner) Mi hiányzik az idézetből? Aprócska dolognak tűnhet, de a NÉVELŐK (ARTICLES) helyes használata egy idegen nyelvben még haladó nyelvtanulókon is sokszor kifog. Miközben olvasol, töltsd ki a szenzációs sztori szövegét határozott névelővel (THE), határozatlannal (A/AN), de vigyázz, van úgy, hogy egyáltalán nincs szükség névelőre (-)!

THE STORY:

Minden idők legjobb amerikai ex-atlétája, az olimpiai tízpróba bajnok Bruce már mint Caitlyn Jenner vehette át júliusban a kiemelkedő teljesítményt nyújtó sportolóknak járó ESPY tiszteletbeli Bátorság Díját a Los Angeles-i díjátadón. 65 év megpróbáltatásai után Bruce végül őszintén feltárta családja és a nyilvánosság előtt az egész világot sokkoló tényt: egészen kisgyermekkora óta mindig is a női nemmel azonosult, titokban női ruhákba bújt, amikor sem az akkori felesége, sem a gyerekei nem látták, mi több, szembesítette szeretteit azzal, hogy valójában idegenként élte le saját testében élete legjavát. Néhány hónappal ezelőttig képtelen volt megosztani bárkivel élete legnagyobb dilemmáját, őrlődéseit és titkolózását, beleértve a legközelebbi hozzátartozóit is, amikor is végül beavatta családját a végső és visszafordíthatatlan elhatározásába: most már önmagaként akarja leélni hátralevő életét, amihez transzszexuális átalakító műtéten kíván átesni. Az operáció óta Caitlyn először boldog, a közvélemény szerint igazán vonzó nő és a legkritikusabb időszakon túljutott családja bevallása alapján most sokkal jobb szülő, kiegyensúlyozottabb és boldogabb ember lett. Jelenleg napi életébe enged bepillantást új valóságshow-ja, az I AM CAIT.

A kitöltendő eredeti brit újságcikk az ESPY Díjátadóról szól, amire múlt hónapban került sor.

Segítő szószedetet a cikk végén találsz :)

Kellemes angolozást!

CAITLYN JENNER SPEAKS FROM THE HEART DURNIG AN EMOTIONAL EVENING ABOUT FINDING THE COURAGE TO BE HERSELF

Watched by her family, Caitlyn Jenner looked both proud and emotional as she accepted ___(1) Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the Excellence in ___(2) Sports Performance Yearly Awards in Los Angeles.

Making her first public appearance since announcing in ___(3) interview on US TV in April that she was making the transition from male to female, the 65-year-old former athlete, who won ___(4) gold medal as Bruce Jenner in the men's decathlon in ___(5) 1976 Montreal Olympics, received a standing ovation after a rousing acceptance speech in which she thanked her family and highlighted the challenges faced by ___(6) transgender people.

bruce1.png

Speaking before ___(7) ceremony, Caitlyn's 31-year-old son Brody, from Bruce's second marriage, to songwriter and former actress Linda Thomson, talked exclusively about overwhelming support Caitlyn has received since changing gender.

"None of us knew what was going to happen," he said. "All ___(8) family has 100 per cent supported Caitlyn and said, 'Go for it.' So I hoped for that and was blown away by the amount of support that was out there. It has been pretty inspirational to watch."

bruce12.jpg

Brody knew about ___(9) planned transition as far back as 2012.

"You could just tell Bruce had some secrets. Obviously, I couldn't tell how deep those secrets were, what Bruce was really hiding, but when my mother told me, about three years ago, I think ___(10) first thing I said was, 'I need ___(11) drink'. And so I knew for years before Bruce decided to tell me. In that type of situation, you want the person who is going through the struggle to come out and you don't want to bring it up with them, so I waited.

"I felt very relieved for Caitlyn  when she told me because I knew it was ___(12) secret that she had been harbouring for ___(13) very long time.

bruce5.jpg

WONDER WOMAN

When the announcement was made in early June that Caitlyn was to be honoured with an award, she had tweeted: "What ___(14) hell am I going to wear? On the night, looking elegant in ___(15) white Atelier Versace silk gown, she began her ten-minute speech on a light-hearted note.

"It seems like every time I turn around in ___(16) life, I'm putting myself in these high-pressure situations," she said. "But I've never felt more pressured than I ever have felt in my life than over the last couple of months. Picking out this outfit - okay, girls I get it! You've got to get the shoes, the hair, the make-up, ___(17) whole process. It was exhausting. And next, the fashion police - please be kind on me, I'm new at this."

bruce3.jpg

Sitting in the audience were Caitlyn's sister Pam, her mother Esther and her six children - son Burton and daughter Cassandra from Bruce's first marriage to Chrystie Scott, who was also present; son Brody and his brother Brandon; and daughters Kendall and Kylie from Bruce's third marriage to Kris Kardashian.

Kris was also in the audience, as were her older daughters Kourtney, Kim said by Caitlyn to have been ___(18) most accepting of her transition - and Khloé Kardashian, who is said to have taken the news of her stepfather's transition the hardest. Their brother Rob wasn't there.

bruce6.jpg

It was while thanking her family that Caitlyn - whose new reality TV show, ___(19) I am Cait, starts this weekend on E! - became tearful.

"Here comes ___(20) tough part," she said. "I'd like to thank my family. Now, the biggest fear I've always had in coming out was I never wanted to hurt anyone else, most of all my family and my kids. I always wanted my children to be so proud of their dad because of what he was able to accomplish in his life. You guys have given so much back to me. You've given me so much support. I am so, so grateful to have all of you in my life. Thank you."

bruce9.jpg

Caitlyn's children have been supportive throughout her journey. On Father's Day, Kendall posted ___(21) photo on Instagram of herself as a toddler with Bruce, captioning it: " Happy Father's Day to ___(22) person who raised me, and taught me everything I know, my hero." She later praised Caitlyn's bravery in surprising the world as Vanity Fair's July cover girl and tweeted: "Be free now, pretty bird."

Kim, who met Caitlyn for the first time at the Vanity Fair photoshoot, said of her shortly afterwards: "She's beautiful and I'm so proud that she can just be her authentic self. I guess That's what ___(23) life is about."

Esther, who also supported Bruce's transition to Caitlyn, received a special mention in the speech. "You know I have always thought that I got my courage and my determination from my dad..., said Caitlyn. "But you know what I'm realising now Mom? I think I got all those qualities from you."

bruce11.jpg

CALL TO ARMS

The main thrust of Caitlyn's speech, though, was to rally support for the transgender community. Bruce had made his first transition attempt in ___(24) late 1980s, when he took hormones, but abandoned treatment over concerns about his family before pursuing it again after his third marriage ended in 2013. Describing the process as "eye opening, inspiring but also frightening", Caitlyn laid out in stark terms the dangers young trans people face today.

"They are getting bullied, they're getting beaten up, they're getting murdered and they're committing suicide.," she said, adding later: "If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead, because ___(25) reality is I can take it. But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with being true to who they are, shouldn't have to take it."

MAGYARUL:

Congratulations Leo!

KEY:

INTERVIEWER: Leonardo, please talk about what type of commentary this is MAKING (1) about the GREED (2) that is kind of permeated in our culture. We’ve seen this on Wall Street, but it could be ANY (3) business, right?

LEO: Oh, well yeah I mean it was very much our REFLECTION (4). I mean the motivation for it really came out of what HAPPENED (5) in 2008 and the INCENTIVE (6) that we wanted to get this movie out now I think that it’s very difficult to do a film with Wall Street in the title period because people just have a BAD TASTE (7) in their MOUTH (8) about that SUBJECT MATTER (9) but in a lot of ways this story to me is like a microcosm of a much bigger problem and that’s the the, you know,..this this attitude that we’ve had about CONSUMING (10) as much as we possibly can and OBTAINING (11) as much WEALTH (12) as we possibly can without any REGARD (13) for..for the people that it AFFECTS (14) and you know these guys in the story aren’t the BIG FISH (15) upon Wall Street, they’re not the FAT CATS (16) but they REPRESENT (17) something in our culture and that’s what we WANTED (18) to EXPLORE (19) in this movie.

INTERVIEWER: Do you see a SIMILARITY (20) with Jay Gatsby at all with Jordan? I mean, is there some type of CONTINUATION (21)?

LEO: Er…other than, you know, wanting to obtain as much wealth as they BOTH (22) possibly can AT (23) any COST (24) I think there is a DISTINCTION (25) between the TWO (26) of THEM (27). And I think the distinction was that J. Gatsby did it for the love of Daisy and Jordan did it for the love of HIMSELF (28)..hehe.

INTERVIEWER: Actors sometimes have to do quite thick things in movies. With the extreme things you had to do, whether pretending to be on drugs and all that…How interesting was it physically for you to go through some of the ASSIGNMENTS (29)?

LEO: Well, you know, LIKE (30) I’ve said before I felt like this was a modern fall of the ROMAN (31) Empire this was like a CALIGULA (32), this was a Roman EMPEROR (33) gone AWRY (34) and so we wanted to put that INTO (35) a modern CONTEXT (36) and so every day on SET (37) was a sort of INSANE (38) journey and the fun of it was you know we really wanted to push the BOUNDARIES (39) as far as we possibly could and in Jordan’s story so you need because he actually did THESE (40) things. These’re not SOMETHING (41) a writer could create. His boat did crash, I mean, his boat did SINK (42), his private plane that CAME (43) to get HIM (44) did crash on the WAY (45) and he did do that MANY (46) drugs and he did go you know and SLEEP (47) with that many WOMEN (48) and and and RIPPED (49) that many people OFF (50) and all these extreme CIRCUMSTANCES (51) were in the BOOK (52) and you know it’s a CAUTIONARY TALE (53) in a sense that he’s reflecting back on his life now and uhm..but it’s the same time period that it happen in a modern day CONTEXT (54) and that’s why we wanted to really put it upon SCREEN (55) because I think it was an important story to tell.

NEPAL REELS AS TREMORS SYMIE RESCUE

Death toll exceeds 5,500 while thousands are forced to sleep outdoors

A growing sense of despair spread through Katmandu _________ (1)Sunday as the devastated Nepali capital was convulsed by aftershocks that sent residents screaming into the streets, where they were pelted by heavy rain.

A day _________(2) an earthquake killed more than 6,600 people and injured __________(3) 5,900 residents grew frantic and the government, entirely overwhelmed by the enormousness of the challenge facing the country, struggled to provide relief, or much hope.

Streets in parts of this city of about 1.2 million were impassable not so much from quake damage but because tents of thousands of people have taken up residence there. It was a strategy endorsed by the government.

The country's prime minister, Sushil Koirala, who was attending a conference _____________(4) Indonesia when the quake struck, had rushed back __________(5) Katmandu and was to speak to his desperate countrymen in a televised address on Sunday. But the speech was delayed, as some relief efforts have been, by strong tremors that continue to rock the country.

The already difficult situation in much of the capital, where safe shelters are scarce, was made worse Sunday when rains began to pour down on huddled masses.

It is increasingly evident that authorities here were ill equipped to rescue those trapped and would have trouble maintaining adequate supplies __________(6) water, electricity and food.

"In my neighbourhood, the police are conspicious by their absence," said Sridhar Khatri of the South Asia Center for Policy studies in Katmandu. "There is not even a show of force to deter vandalism, which some reports say is on the rise."

On Sunday, the government began setting ____________(7) 16 relief stations across Katmandu and the rest of the country while rescue operations continued. The relief stations are expected  to ease distribution of water, food and medicine, said Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, a spokesman at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Electricity has been intermittent at best in Katmandu, and absent entirely in other parts of Nepal, but that is not wholly unusual in a country where nighttime blackouts are routine.

Many hotels, commercial buildings and wealthy homes in the capital have their own generators. But nearly all of the country's gas and diesel supplies are brought in from India, and with traffic reduced to a crawl _________(8) major highways, those supplies could dwindle quickly. Some gas stations in Katmandu have already run dry; others are rationing their remaining supplies.

Thousands of Katmandu's residents squatted on streets throughout the city either because their homes were destroyed or continued aftershocks, including one of magnitude 6.7, left them too afraid to go back inside. Other residents were camping out in schools, school playgrounds and government offices.

The goverment announced that schools would remain closed ____________(9) at least five days and it pleaded with government workers to help in local rescue efforts in place of their usual jobs.

Stephen Groves, who lives in Katmandu, said he was inspecting a building for cracks when the biggest of many aftershocks hit, leading to terrified screams from those nearby.

"The whole time I was thinking if the building next to me was going to come ___________(10) on top of me," Mr Groves said in an email. "People here are in panic, and every aftershock contributes to that. They are not going indoors, they are staying in the roads and in open areas. Many are searching for family members.

Mr. Groves said he went to a hospital in the capital on Saturday, where hordes of people were lying on the ground outside the building, many __________(11) intravenous drips hooked up to their arms and shocked looks on their faces.

The city was awash with rumors that the worst aftershocks were yet to come and with fears of greater destruction in the countryside, large swaths of which remained unreachable by phone.

Subhash Ghimire, the editor in chief of Nepalese newspaper Republica, said he managed to reach his father in his village, home to about 3,000 people near the epicenter in the Gorkha district. "He said not a single house is left in our village, including our own house," Mr. Ghimire said.

On Mount Everest, helicopter rescue operation began Sunday morning to bring wounded climbers ___________(12) the mountain, where at least 18 climbers were killed and another 41 injured, making the earthquake the deadliest event in the mountain's history. Three Americans were ____________(13) those killed, according to the State Department.

Aftershocks and small avalanches throughout the day Sunday continued to plague the nearly 800 people staying at the mountain base camp and at higher elevation camps.

After posting on Twitter that he was "fairly safe but stuck" _________(14) the base camp, a climber, Jim Davidson, then provided a more alarming update from Camp 1, which is above the base camp. "Just had our biggest aftershock yet here at C1 on Everest. Smaller than original quake but glacier shook & avalanches," he wrote.

Nick Talbot, 39, was attempting to be the first person with cystic fibrosis to climb Mount Everest when a 100- to 200-yard wall of ice and snow came barreling toward him.

"I ran __________(15)" he said in an interview. "I thought, there's no chance I can get away. I just had my socks on. It knocked me ____________(16) the rocks. I got up and it knocked me over again." he said. He was evacuated ___________(17) helicopter Sunday afternoon. He returned ____________(18) anything but the clothes he was wearing. All of his belongings were buried by the avalanche.

"I'm sure there will have been many fatalities just because the scale of it," he said.

Tulasi Prasad Gautam, director general of Nepal's Tourism Department, said he feared that continued aftershocks had trapped more climbers. In addition to the dead and injured, nearly 25 climbers who had been en route Saturday to Camp 2 from Camp 1 are missing.

"Actually, the tents are still there for some 20 to 25 climbers who were heading __________(19) Camp 2 in the course of climbing practice, but they are not in contact", Mr Gautam said.

In a blog post Sunday, Eric Simonson of International Mountain Guides said the news from the Everest base camp "was quite bleak", and tha the company's encampment "has been turned into a triage center, and our big dining tents are now being used _________(20) hospital tents."

"The tons and tons of falling ice going this vertical distance created a huge aerosol avalanche and accompanying air blast," he wrote. "It is worth noting that over many expeditions we have never seen an avalanche from this area that was even remotely of this scale."

Susan Parker-Burns, a spokeswoman from the United States Embassy in Nepal, said in an email Sunday that a rescue and relief team from the United States Agency for International Development was dispatched by military transport to Nepal, and they would arrive on Monday.

Also Sunday, the Israeli military said that it was preparing to send Boeing 747s carrying 260 aid workers and more than 90 tons of cargo to Katmandu. About 600 Israelis are believed to be in Nepal, a popular destination for young backpackers after their compulsory military service. Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical response organization, had already sent an advance team of 10 paramedics and two doctors to Nepal.

Nepal will most likely require significant help. The country's existing political discord is likely to hamper rescue and rebuilding efforts. The government has been barely functional for more than a decade, with politicians of just about every stripe fighting over the scraps of the increasingly desperate economy. A 10-year civil war _________ (21) Maoist parties and the government ended in 2006, but the resulting Constituent Assembly spent four years trying to write a constitution without success. Paralysis ensued until elections in November 2013 led to the unexpected rout of the previously dominant Maoists.

Nepal's people had already become exhausted with the political paralysis, but those feelings could turn explosive if relief and rescue efforts fail in the coming weeks, analysts said. The fear of just such an outcome could spur an intense international relief effort, as an odd collection of countries - including China, India and the United States - were already cooperating on pushing Nepal's polititians toward compromise.

The co-pilot of the Germanwings flight that crashed in the French Alps, named as Andreas Lubitz, appeared to want to "destroy the plane", officials said.

germanwings1.png

He intentionally started a descent while the pilot was locked out.

Mr Robin said there was "absolute silence in the cockpit" as the pilot fought to re-enter it.

He said air traffic controllers made repeated attempts to contact the aircraft, but to no avail. Passengers could be heard screaming just before the crash, he added.

Details are emerging of the German co-pilot's past - although his apparent motives for causing the crash remain a mystery.

Mr Lubitz, 27, had undergone intensive training and "was 100% fit to fly without any caveats", according to Carsten Spohr, the head of Lufthansa, the German carrier that owns Germanwings.

Mr Spohr said Mr Lubitz's training had been interrupted for several months six years ago, but did not say why.

The training was resumed after "the suitability of the candidate was re-established", he said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters that the co-pilot's apparent actions had given the tragedy a "new, simply incomprehensible dimension".

Police have been searching the co-pilot's home in Montabaur, near Frankfurt, as well as a flat he kept in Duesseldorf.

The Airbus 320 from Barcelona to Duesseldorf hit a mountain, killing all 144 passengers and six crew, after an eight-minute descent.

Andreas Lubitz: Germanwings co-pilot under scrutiny

al.jpg

  • Started training in 2008, at Bremen and Arizona. Training was interrupted for some months - but he later passed all tests and was deemed fit to fly

  • Working as co-pilot, or first officer, since 2013. Appeared pleased with his job

  • Lived in town of Montabaur, near Frankfurt, reportedly with his parents. Kept a flat in Duesseldorf and had many friends

  • Facebook profile suggests the active lifestyle of a keen runner, with an interest in pop music

"We hear the pilot ask the co-pilot to take control of the plane and we hear at the same time the sound of a seat moving backwards and the sound of a door closing," Mr Robin told reporters.

He said the pilot, named in the German media as Patrick Sondenheimer, had probably gone to the toilet.

"At that moment, the co-pilot is controlling the plane by himself. While he is alone, the co-pilot presses the buttons of the flight monitoring system to put into action the descent of the aeroplane.

"He operated this button for a reason we don't know yet, but it appears that the reason was to destroy this plane."

Meanwhile, online tracking service Flightradar24 said satellite data it had analysed found that someone had changed the plane's altitude from 38,000ft (11,582m) to 100ft - the minimum setting possible.

"Between 09:30:52 and 09:30:55 you can see that the autopilot was manually changed from 38,000ft to 100ft and nine seconds later the aircraft started to descend, probably with the 'open descent' autopilot setting," Flightradar24 chief Fredrik Lindahl was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Mr Lubitz was alive until the final impact, Mr Robin said. The prosecutor added that "the most plausible interpretation" was that the co-pilot had deliberately barred the pilot from re-entering the cockpit.

He added that the co-pilot was "not known by us" to have any links to extremism or terrorism.

Analysis: Richard Westcott, BBC transport correspondent

The focus now moves from the mechanics to the man flying the plane. An accident expert has told me the investigators will pore over the co-pilot's background and that of his family too.

Did he owe money? Was there a grudge? They'll look at his religion, whether he was in trouble with the law, whether he had a stable love life. This kind of event is rare but it has happened before, although the reasons vary widely.

After 9/11, they made cockpits impregnable. It keeps the terrorists out, but in the end it also allows someone to keep their colleagues out too. Airlines have to make a call. Which is the bigger threat - terrorism or suicide?

Passengers were not aware of the impending crash "until the very last moment" when screams could be heard, Mr Robin said, adding that they died instantly.

After Thursday's revelations, several airlines have pledged to change their rules to ensure at least two crew members are present in the cockpit at all times.

Meanwhile, relatives and friends of the victims travelled to the Alpine region where the plane came down, near the town of Seyne-les-Alpes.

The disclosure of the likely cause of the crash has provoked anger.

"One person can't have the right to end the lives of hundreds of people and families," Esteban Rodriguez, a Spanish factory worker who lost two friends aboard the aircraft, told the Associated Press news agency.

The principal of a German high school that lost 16 pupils and two teachers in the crash said the latest news was "much, much worse than we had thought".

The second "black box" - that records flight data - has still not been found.
